Laminate wood and tile flooring is a fairly new product that is becoming widely popular.  Laminate flooring is made of a very thin layer of natural wood or tile variation, glued onto particles of other wood.  Laminate flooring is easy to install and very economical.  Also, laminate floors are said to be floating floors due to the fact they are unattached to the sub-floor.  This allows for easy expansion and contraction.

Laminate vs. Solid Hardwood

      Laminate flooring exhibits similar appearance characteristics to solid hardwood.  Laminate is more flexible to movement in floor composition, expansion and contraction, based on the fact that it is unattached to the sub-floor.  Solid hardwood flooring is more durable than laminate, can withstand water better and can be refinished when worn down.  Laminate is a more temporary and economical flooring option than hardwood.
