  This project was a condominium which originally had an outdated ceramic tile shower with three walls and a fiberglass base.  The partition wall was removed along with all the tile and the fiberglass base. 

  A new tile shower drain was installed as well as the rough-in for new shower fixtures.  The shower floor was poured by the process below with a waterproof membrane and mud curb. 

  The marble tile for the main bathroom floor was then installed in the standard pattern using 1/16" grout joints.

  For the shower walls, floor and ceiling, a white ceramic was installed.  A decorative strip, two corner shelves, soap dish and towel bar were added.

  The original partition wall was replaced with a stationary glass panel, and the entrance boasted a swinging glass door.

  The pictures below display how a tile shower pan is formed and the final product.  The tile installed on the walls is a ceramic that had gray grains running through them.  These imperfections tied in with the marble flooring which are characterized by their natural calcium grains.

About the Materials

This project depicts how two different types of tile can compliment each other.  The ceramic on the wall has contrasting color but similar characteristics in style to the marble tile on the floor.  Mixing a natural stone with a ceramic or porcelain is a modern way of creating a beautiful contrast.
