This project was coordinated by Phil Carlson Custom Woodcraft LLC.  He came to me to installed all the tile work in two bathrooms, the kitchen, and around a fireplace.

About the Project

  This house in Minneapolis involved replacing ceramic tile in the showers and on the floors of two bathrooms, as well as a kitchen back-splash and a fireplace surround.

  The first bathroom had a tile bathtub surround.  We removed the original tile and drywall, installed new cement board and a new ceramic tile.  Two things we changed from the original shower was that we extended the tile to the ceiling to create the look of a larger shower.  Also, we added a glass tile accent strip. 

  The floor of the first bathroom was originally penny-sized ceramic tile.  We removed this and updated to a 12" white granite tile.

  The glass tile mosaic in this project was not as thick as the wall tile, posing a potential problem for a smooth finish.

  We had to double the layer of thin-set behind the glass tile to make it flush with the ceramic on the walls.
