  This project is a master bathroom transformation that was originally finished with a plain white ceramic tile. 

  The original tub surround had a wood face frame that was removed to enhance the elegance of the new bathroom.  White ceramic tile covered the shower, tub surround and bathroom floor.

  Cracks had begun to separate the grout on the shower floor, an early sign of a leak in the membrane in the shower pan.  Once water penetrates through the membrane, it soaks the plywood sub-floor, causing swelling to occur.  This swelling will push on the shower floor and cause the tile or grout to crack.

  All the original tile, backer-board, tub face frame, toilet, shower door and wood trim were removed.  

  The new finish is a beautiful natural stone tile called travertine.  The bathroom floor was tiled in a versaille pattern which utilizes 6 different sized tiles.  The tub surround and shower walls consist of an 8" x 10" travertine tile that was capped at the edges by a thin pencil piece.  The shower wall with the shower head has a vertical accent strip consisting of diagonal 2" tiles.  The shower floor is 1" tiles.

Notice that the blend of different sized tile was utilized in this master bathroom in order to "break up" and stand out the multiple surfaces.  This brings a look of elegance that is anything but boring. 

Tile was also used to replace the wood face frame to the tub and the wood base around the floor.  This allows for easy cleaning and seals the entire floor area.
